The McCarthy's of Lake Tahoe has their Toyota Prius broken into last week by a mischievous black bear. It's bad enough that we have to worry about humans stealing car, when mother nature get involved perhaps it shows we're headed in the right direction when marketing green autos.
The McCarthy's called for help by contacting the sheriff's department, but as soon as their call ended, the car was gone.
The car rolled 80 ft down the owner's driveway, across the street, and only stopped after it knocked into the neighbor's deck. Once recovered, the car was empty. Looks like this black bear will be charged with leaving the scene of an incident.
"The direction-selector gear shift lever had been ripped completely out of the dashboard," Mrs. McCarthy said. "Every recognizable piece of the interior" had been ripped out--although it was undamaged on the outside."1
Maybe future Prius vehicles, like the ones available at Tri-State Toyota in Dudley, MA, should come with an anti-bear warning device.
