Toyota Motorsport GmbH Announces Big Plans for August 29
What's so special about August 29? Tri-State Toyota, serving the greater Dudley area will tell you. August 29 marks the day when Toyota Motorsport GmbH plans to break the current EV lap record at the legendary Nüreburgring Nordschleife. Toyota's prerogative is, of course, to prove motorsports are just as exciting when their "green" as when their powered by the darker side of fossil fuels.
To achieve this admirable goal, Toyota has created a high-performance, battery-powered, two-seat EV. The Japanese automaker alleges that the EV supercar has already succeeded in beating the current 9:01.338 record lap time and will now simply make it official.
If reports are true, and the new Toyota Motorsport GmbH auto really does reach a top speed of 162 mph, and rocket from zero to 60 miles per hour in under four seconds, Tri-State Toyota believes it has more than a fair shake at succeeding. Perhaps more important, Ludwig Zeller, General Manager Electrics and Electronics, Toyota Motorsport GmbH is confident the new green machine will reset the benchmark.
"[Toyota Motorsport GmbH] TMG has developed a very robust and reliable electrical powertrain, which has been proven in several products already," explains Zeller. "We have built up a tremendous amount of knowledge about such high-performance powertrains, particularly battery management systems and vehicle control units, during our development programmes. Our lap record attempt brings together this knowledge and it should clearly show the great potential for high-performance electric powertrains."1
We don't know about you, but Tri-State Toyota will definitely be tuning in on the 29th, for final lap results. A win could be a forebringer of a new era in racing.
